Depository library for USAID’s Communication for Healthy Living
and Takamol projects housed at Bibliotheca Alexandrina
Representatives from the Library of Alexandria and USAID’s
Takamol and Communication for Healthy Living projects came
together at the Library on February 28th to sign a depository
agreement. Under the agreement, the Library will include health
communication materials, training manuals, and documentation of
best practices for health–related projects in its growing
collection.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the New Library of Alexandria, is
dedicated to recapturing the spirit of the original and aims to
be the world’s “window on Egypt” as well as a state-of-the-art
center for learning, tolerance, dialogue, and understanding. The
project materials represent part of USAID’s history in Egypt,
and an important resource for health professionals, policy
makers, students and researchers from all over the world.
Communication for Healthy Living (CHL) is USAID’s cross-cutting
behavior change communication project, implemented through the
Ministry of Health and Population and the Ministry of
Information-State Information Services Center. CHL’s national
campaigns carry behavior change messages on family planning and
reproductive health, maternal and child health, infectious
diseases including avian influenza, HIV/AIDS, and hepatitis, and
healthy lifestyles.
The Takamol project (Arabic for integration) promotes an
integrated model for strengthening maternal/child health, family
planning, and reproductive health services. Takamol is working
to prepare the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population to
fully support and sustain these services as USAID phases out its
assistance in these areas. |
