Sample Communication Strategy Brief

Every production and publication in a communication program should start with a Communication Brief to make sure the product stays on track and serves its intended purpose. A sample Communication Brief with all necessary components is shown below.

Post-Partum Care Flyer

 Project Description:

Develop and produce a flyer containing emergency symptoms for mother and child. The flyer is designed to enhance the information given in the Mabrouk Booklet for use as an IEC tool for MOHP nurses and health outreach workers and NGO/CDA volunteers, who will also record their visits on the card to enable monitoring of the post-partum home visits program.

Audiences:

Primary: Clients/Consumers

  • Post-partum mothers

  • Husbands and extended family and caregivers.

Secondary: Service Providers

  • Nurses and health outreach workers, NGO/CDA Volunteers

  • Doctors and other primary health care providers

Communication Objectives:

Among Clients/Consumers:

  • Promote knowledge and awareness of medical emergency signs in the post-partum mother and neonate.

  • Promote efficacy, where clients/consumers adopt stance that health is in their hands, and feel empowered by knowledge of correct behaviors to maintain health of family.

Among Service Providers:

  • Harmonize health information disseminated by nurses, health outreach workers, pharmacists, and doctors with nationally-supported health information and messages.

  • Maximize the variety of sources disseminating the health messages to increase impact and build trust of families hearing the messages.

Key Messages:

Emergency and danger signs for post-partum mother and infant
Possible secondary messages on card:

  • Need for Medical check up for post-partum mother and infant

  • Need for Thyroid screening and first immunization for neonate

Creative Approach:

Highly visual with emergency symptoms simply described and illustrated. The card will be designed to fit as an insert into the Mabrouk Booklet Frame, and have the same visual themes belonging to the family of Mabrouk materials being developed, though it can also be used as a stand-alone.

Tone of Message:

Imparts a sense of urgency, criticalness of information.

Desired Action:

Mothers, spouses, other family members and caregivers motivated to respond to any sign of emergency symptoms in post-partum mother or neonate by seeking immediate medical attention.

Mandatories/Notes:

Produced under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Population, with the support of USAID. Include appropriate logos.
